News Flash: TOYOTech, Sharp Display Technology Corporation, and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Develop an Innovative Measurement Technology to study OLED Behavior under Extremely Low Luminance Conditions

TOYOTech launches the measurement system to the OLED industry on October 1st

Fremont, Calif., Septemeber 10, 2024 — TOYOTech, Sharp Display Technology Corporation (Mie, Japan), and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Ishikawa, Japan) have developed a novel measurement technology to analyze the behavior of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) under extremely low luminance conditions.

This new technology measures the gap between the onset voltage of current change and the emission voltage—factors closely linked to OLED degradation. It is expected to play a critical role in analyzing display Mura, a defect that appears in low luminance or as OLEDs degrade.

OLEDs emit light when a voltage is applied to organic compounds, enabling the creation of displays that are thinner, lighter, and more energy-efficient, suitable for devices like TVs and smartphones. Unlike Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), OLEDs have a simpler structure due to their self-emissive properties, which eliminate the need for a backlight. OLEDs are formed by stacking multiple layers of thin films, and their performance depends on optimizing deposition conditions. Traditionally, these characteristics have been evaluated using J-V-L (current density-voltage-luminance) measurements, which track current and luminance as voltage is applied. However, J-V-L technology has limitations in detecting small currents and low luminance levels at the start of OLED light emission.

The newly developed technology overcomes these challenges by measuring both the small displacement current flowing through the OLED and the emission intensity using a highly sensitive silicon photodiode. This allows for precise detection of the difference between the onset voltage of current change and the start of light emission. The system can also measure both current and luminance across a wide range of luminance levels, from extremely low to high, enabling comprehensive analysis of display Mura and contributing to the further enhancement of OLED display performance.

This measurement technology was presented at the International Meeting on Information Display Conference 2024 (IMID2024) in Korea, held from August 20-23.  TOYOTech will officially launch the DCM1000 DC-JVL Measurement System for global customers on October 1st, 2024. News Flash: First in Japan to Achieve 600 V/m in Accredited Field Probe Calibration

First in Japan to Achieve 600 V/m in Accredited Field Probe Calibration

Calibration turnaround time significantly reduced with Japan-based service, boosting product development efficiency

Fremont, Calif., August 28, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — TOYO Corporation announced that its calibration laboratory is the first in Japan to extend field strength to 600 V/m (volts per meter) for calibrating field probes used in immunity testing of in-vehicle electronic devices. Accredited by A2LA under the international standard ISO/IEC 17025, TOYO launched this calibration service on August 1, 2024.

With the advancement of technologies driving vehicle electrification and automated driving, the number of in-vehicle electronic devices is rapidly increasing across various applications such as drive control, safety, and communication. These electronic devices are susceptible to electromagnetic noise from both inside and outside the vehicle, making immunity testing increasingly crucial to ensure they function properly under such conditions.

Immunity testing includes radar pulse testing, which simulates the harsh electromagnetic environments typically encountered under aircraft monitoring radars. These tests require radar pulses with field strengths as high as 600 V/m, and field probes are used to verify the presence of this field strength. To accurately measure the field strength, it is essential to maintain the performance and accuracy of the field probes through regular calibration. However, despite the need for calibration at 600 V/m for radar pulse tests, no calibration lab was previously equipped to handle this requirement.

TOYO has successfully expanded its field probe calibration capabilities to 600 V/m by leveraging the immunity test facilities of its new subsidiary, TOYO EMC Engineering, which specializes in testing in-vehicle electronic devices, along with TOYO’s expertise in field probe calibration. On June 18, 2024, TOYO received ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for this extended scope, making it the first company in Japan to offer accredited calibration services for field probes up to 600 V/m. This advancement significantly reduces calibration turnaround time for customers, particularly in Asia.

Previously, field probe users in Japan and other Asian countries had to send their probes to distant calibration labs if they required calibration at 600 V/m. In response, TOYO has launched its accredited calibration service in neighboring countries, utilizing its global sales network established since the introduction of TOYO’s EMC test systems outside Japan in 1995. TOYO has expanded its sales reach from South Korea and China to the United States, delivering over 350 systems to date.

News Flash: TOYO Corporation Launches “IM10/CS” Conducted Immunity Testing Software

TOYO Corporation Launches “IM10/CS” Conducted Immunity Testing Software

Efficiently evaluates immunity to electromagnetic noise from broadcast radio waves

Fremont, Calif., August 9, 2024  – TOYO Corporation is proud to announce the release of its latest software, “IM10/CS,” designed for conducted immunity testing of electronic devices and automobiles. This new software aims to enhance the evaluation of devices’ immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The growing importance of immunity testing in the age of wireless devices cannot be overstated. With the proliferation of wireless devices, ensuring immunity to electromagnetic noise has become increasingly crucial. All electronic devices emit and are exposed to electromagnetic noise, which can disrupt the operation of other nearby devices, leading to potential malfunctions. To prevent such issues, manufacturers of electronic products, including automobiles, conduct comprehensive electromagnetic immunity tests before bringing their products to market.

Conducted Immunity Testing Software IM10/CS

Conducted immunity testing specifically assesses a device’s resilience to electromagnetic noise, particularly that generated by broadcast radio waves such as FM radio, marine, and aviation signals, which can infiltrate devices through power and signal cables. As the use of radio waves continues to expand across various sectors, conducted immunity testing is more important than ever for the safe operation of electronic equipment.

In EMC testing, two key aspects are evaluated: (1) ensuring that the electrical noise emitted by electronic equipment does not disrupt other devices, and (2) verifying that the normal operation of the electronic equipment is not compromised by external electrical noise.

Leveraging over 40 years of experience in electromagnetic noise measurement and testing, TOYO has developed a series of immunity test software solutions informed by its deep expertise and customer feedback. The “IM5” series, launched in 1997, has been widely adopted, with over 1,100 global deployments to date, owing to its compatibility with a variety of testing equipment. The newly launched “IM10/CS” is part of the “IM10” series, which succeeds the “IM5” series and represents a complete overhaul. This software follows the October 2023 release of “IM10/RS” for radiated immunity testing and now brings the same advanced capabilities to conducted immunity testing.

Conducted Immunity Test Setup (typical)

The software provides comprehensive support for conducted immunity testing with advanced automation capabilities. “IM10/CS” is designed to evaluate devices’ immunity to electromagnetic noise transmitted through cables. Unlike previous versions, which required separate software for different applications, “IM10/CS” supports all conducted immunity tests, making it a versatile tool for both home/office appliances and automotive equipment.

The software offers centralized management of test scenarios, combining the operating modes of the equipment under test (EUT) with the tester (coupler) that introduces electromagnetic noise. It also provides an easily integrable platform for external systems, enabling the automation of diverse test scenarios. For instance, the software can automatically detect malfunctions in EUT exposed to electromagnetic noise, reducing the need for constant monitoring by engineers. This automation not only alleviates the workload on test engineers but also significantly shortens testing time.

The “IM10” series, including “IM10/CS,” will play a crucial role in developing products with superior electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), addressing the growing importance of efficient immunity testing as electronic devices and wireless technologies continue to evolve.

News Flash: TOYO Unveils New Software for Disturbance Power Assessment

TOYO Unveils New Software for Disturbance Power Assessment

Improves EMI measurement efficiency by integrating functionalities that empower users to utilize  capabilities advanced measurement instrumentation

Fremont, Calif., December 4, 2023  – TOYO Corporation (TOYO), a leading provider of advanced measurement solutions, announces new sophisticated evaluation software, “EPX/RFP” and “ES10/RFP,” designed for disturbance power measurement. These two software solutions characterize and measure electromagnetic noise emanating from cables linked to electronic devices such as home appliances.

Electromagnetic noise, or interference, occurs when electromagnetic waves from an electronic device negatively impact other electronic devices. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) measurements are performed to assess the electromagnetic noise emitted by a product, ensuring that its levels do not disrupt the normal operation of other electronic devices.

Electromagnetic noise serves as a common factor contributing to malfunctions in various electronic equipment. Electronic devices, including home appliances, consistently emit electromagnetic noise through their connecting cables. When this noise reaches a significant level, it has the potential to disrupt the functioning of other electronic devices, leading to malfunctions.

ES10/RFP Screenshot

Consequently, electronic equipment manufacturers conduct electromagnetic noise measurements as a pre-release assessment to ensure that their products adhere to specified noise limits outlined in standards. This measurement process is integral during product development, and at times, steps are implemented to mitigate and suppress electromagnetic noise.

TOYO crafts in-house EMI measurement software, drawing upon our accumulated knowledge, 40 years of experience, and customer feedback. Throughout these four decades, TOYO has been at the forefront, delivering an extensive array of measuring instruments and solutions in the realm of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing. With over 30 years of expertise in test software development, which forms the core of EMC test systems, we have created diverse software applications for measuring EMI.

The “EP” series, introduced in 1998, has supported various EMI receivers and associated equipment such as antenna masts and turntables for EMI measurements. To date, the software has been deployed at more than 2,000 sites around the world. The newly introduced “EPX” and “ES10” software series represents a complete overhaul of the original “EP” series.

The “EPX” series is designed to accommodate the latest measuring instruments, while the “ES10” series offers compatibility with a diverse range of measuring devices, empowering users to select software tailored to their specific requirements.

The “EPX” series is engineered to seamlessly integrate with Keysight Technology’s “N9048B PXE” EMI receiver. This integration enhances the overall efficiency of the EMI measurement process. The N9048B PXE employs a “gapless measurement” method, ensuring continuous observation and measurement of electromagnetic noise. This pioneering approach addresses the limitations of conventional measurement methods, where noise is often missed. The gapless measurement functionality allows comprehensive scrutiny of all electromagnetic noise in a single measurement, mitigating the need for subsequent rework due to overlooked problematic noise. This results in a reduction in overall measurement time.

Additionally, the “EPX” series incorporates TOYO’s patented technologies, specifically “Spectrum analysis method and its device (Patent No. 6533024)” and “Radiated disturbance measurement method and radiated disturbance measurement system (Patent No. 6505348),” simplifying the execution of tests in accordance with established standards.

The “ES10” series, on the other hand, is designed for customers using measurement equipment other than the “N9048B PXE.” It can perform similar measurements, including conformance tests, at a lower cost.

Both software products introduce two innovative features aimed at enhancing the efficiency and speed of measurements and countermeasures. Firstly, there’s a time-based assessment of measured electromagnetic noise, complementing the traditional frequency-based evaluation. Secondly, the software facilitates the straightforward presentation of variances between two distinct measurement outcomes.

The time-based evaluation function allows for easy identification of the source of troublesome noise by comparing the visualized cycle of electromagnetic noise occurrences with the drive cycle of installed components. Additionally, the function displaying the disparity between pre and post-noise countermeasure measurements streamlines the noise mitigation process, offering a quick and effective means to assess the impact of countermeasures.

By incorporating the “EPX/RFP” Disturbance Power Measurement and Analysis Software and the “ES10/RFP” Disturbance Power Measurement Software into the “EPX” and “ES10” series, TOYO aims to support our customers in producing superior quality products. This addition addresses a diverse array of EMC testing requirements, enabling effective mitigation of emitted noise and enhanced control over product quality during the manufacturing process.

EPX/RFP Screenshot

The main features of Disturbance Power Measurement and Analysis Software “EPX/RFP” and Disturbance Power Measurement Software “ES10/RFP” are:

  • Effectively discern complex noise patterns that have been on the rise in recent years by leveraging the Time Domain Scan (TDS) feature, facilitating time-based assessment of recorded electromagnetic noise levels. Additionally, the Accelerated Time Domain Scan (A-TDS) feature ensures continuous monitoring of electromagnetic noise across the entire measurement frequency range, allowing for time-based evaluation. The A-TDS function is exclusive to the “EPX” series
  • Streamlines testing processes by automatically managing measurement device settings and other parameters through the software
  • Introduces a feature for displaying variances between multiple sets of measurement data, simplifying the comparison and analysis of results
  • Complies with CISPR14 and the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law

New Collateral Alert: Updated Rototest Product Brochure

Here’s our new 2023 Rototest Product Brochure.  Rototest’s dynamometers are designed to simulate real-world driving conditions, allowing engineers and researchers to evaluate the performance and characteristics of engines in a controlled environment. These systems can be used for testing automotive engines, marine engines, and other types of powertrains.

Rototest’s dynamometers typically consist of a motorized load unit that applies resistance to the engine being tested, a control unit that manages the testing process and collects data, and various sensors and instruments for measuring different parameters.  Software for data analysis and visualization is provided for, allowing users to interpret and compare test results.
