TOYO Announces New Self-developed Vehicles and Components Emission Measurement Software ES10/VE

New Support for CISPR25:2016 Annex I, HV/EV testing

Fremont Calif., November 19, 2020 – TOYO Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange 1st Division, Code:8151) announces “ES10/VE”, a new software product for EMI*1 measurement of vehicles and on-vehicle components and EMI compliance evaluation*2. This software is an internally developed product of TOYO Corporation.

 

Product Summary

ES10/VE” is a new emission measurement software application developed by One Technologies Company, one of TOYO’s inhouse companies engaged in product development projects. This software is used together with an EMI receiver to measure the electromagnetic noise (emission) from automobiles and on-vehicle equipment. “ES10/VE” supports a variety of EMI receivers including those designed by Keysight Technologies and Rohde & Schwartz, which is one of the key advantages of this product.

“ES10/VE” supports “CISPR 25*3: 2016 Edition 4?Annex I,” an international EMI standard for automobiles. This annex has been added to define the evaluation method for power supply systems with high voltage components mounted on EV and HV since such systems using an increased amount of voltage could cause new noise interference.

Furthermore, two new features that help you to reduce the time to identify noise and take a countermeasure are implemented in “ES10/VE”. One is to show the measured electromagnetic noise in the time domain in addition to the frequency domain and the other one is to show a comparison between two sets of measurement data. You can visualize in the time domain view the timing of when the electromagnetic noise appeared and with this, you can easily pinpoint the noise source by finding a section of the noise that runs with the same timing. Also, with the spectrum graph comparison feature, the measurement results can be easily compared before and after a countermeasure is taken, which reduces the time to determine the right countermeasures.

 

EMI measurement software lineup 

TOYO’s self-developed EMI measurement software is now available in two series – the “ES10” series that supports a wide variety of EMI receivers and other EMI related test equipment (antenna mast, turntable, etc) and the “EPX” series*4, the high end series specifically developed for the most recent and top-of-the-line EMI receiver from Keysight Technologies. Using the unified platform (software’s base structure) for both series, we will minimize the functional differences and the time to release new features.

TOYO Launches Target Simulator ASGARD2 with Support for Variable Field of View

 

TOYOTech Launched UniqueSec’s Radar Target Simulator ”ASGARD2” Supporting Variable Angle Perception in Japan

ASGARD2 is used for Evaluation of ADAS functions on mmWave radar sensors

Fremont Calif., November 5, 2020 – TOYO Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange 1st Division, Code:8151) launched the next generation of radar target simulator, “ASGARD2” developed by a Swedish company, UniqueSec AB on (enter the launch date). Supporting the variable angular perception of targets, the “ASGARD2” can be used for testing automotive millimeter wave (mmWave) radar sensors.

 

Product Overview

The radar sensing technology enables detection of other vehicles and obstacles (targets) and is critical for AEB (Automatic Emergency Brake) and other ADAS functions. The “ASGARD” series products simulate virtual targets for the mm-Wave radar sensors, one of the core sensors on the vehicles, and enable validation of the ADAS functions realized by the mm-Wave radar sensors while varying the viewing angle (direction in which the sensor receives radio waves). With the patented technology for signal processing in the frequency domain, the “ASGARD” series can run test scenarios to simulate such as near collision, thanks to one of its key features that enables generation of simulated targets at almost 0 meters distance from the radar sensor under test. In addition, simultaneous simulation of multiple angles of arrival from multiple targets without mechanical movement of ASGARD antennas (the gold chassis in the above photo) or the radar under test is implemented in the “ASGARD2”. This is the industry’s first product2 developed based on MIMO technology.

Interfaced to the vehicle dynamics and traffic simulation software, the “ASGARD2” can be used to build a HILS (Hardware in the Loop Simulation) system for the mm-Wave radar sensor under test, which allows you to test the collision avoidance function and all other ADAS functions indoors.

 

 

Product Details

The mm-Wave radar sensor’s functions are currently tested both in the test field and in HILS setups using a target simulator. In field tests, targets such as surrounding vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles are actually set up. When the test scenarios get complicated, however, the locations and number of targets need to be changed repeatedly, which entails cost and time. The HILS systems can cover this shortcoming; However, the distance from the vehicle under test to the target could not be reduced to less than a few meters due to the system performance including the delay caused by the target simulator’s signal processing and circuit length. Thus, it was not possible to test the collision avoidance function of AEB as test scenarios including a situation just before a collision where the distance to the target is less than a few meters could not be simulated.
With patented technology in “ASGARD2” for target generation in the spectrum domain, you can now set the distance between the radar under test and simulated targets to almost 0 (zero) meters, which enables you to test the collision avoidance functions. Similarly, when the angle of arrival from the target needs to be added to the simulation, it took more time for the test since the test antenna of the target simulator needed to be mounted on a rail or dolly. It was therefore not easy to run test scenarios including cut-ins and rush-outs. Taking the advantage of the MIMO technology for electronic generation of angles in “ASGARD2”, test scenarios mentioned above can be run without moving the antennas.

The “ASGARD2” can evaluate the processing algorithm of the mm-Wave radar sensor, helping you efficiently simulate the angle of arrival, relative speed and distance of the approaching target in order to test the collision avoidance function of the vehicle that uses the sensor under test. Different mm-Wave radar sensor functions can be evaluated by “ASGARD2” thanks to the control software which allows to set various targets with variable angle of arrival, distance, and relative speed. Another key feature of “ASGARD2” is its compact design – such that it can be placed on a desk in the office for operation. Being used indoors or in a controlled environment, “ASGARD2” enables highly repeatable tests.

Launch of Swedish “Automotive CATR Solution“ installable in existing EMC testing anechoic chambers

Fremont, Calif. – June 25, 2020 – TOYOTech, a wholly owned subsidiary of TOYO Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange 1st Division, Code: 8151) announced the launch of the “Automotive CATR*1 (compact range) Solution” from RanLOS AB (HQ: Gothenburg, Sweden), following the conclusion of a distribution agreement for marketing RanLOS products in the United States, Japan and China. This solution offers a method to evaluate the quality of on-vehicle wireless communication devices.

The integration of automotive and communication technologies has been advancing with the increased needs  for on-vehicle wireless data communication to improve safety, streamline traffic, and offer infotainment and internet access services. It is expected that higher-quality communication – larger capacity and smaller delay – will be required to advance the progress of autonomous driving/Advanced Driver Assistance System technologies and to offer better-quality services.

While wireless communication testing has become a part of the routine in the mobile products and service development process to improve quality and guarantee performance in the communication industry, testing methodologies and standards for wireless communication functions on automobiles has yet to be established. When you test on-vehicle wireless communication equipment, the entire vehicle with the communication equipment mounted on needs to be tested instead of testing the equipment alone. In addition, automotive manufacturers are seeking a practical way to test while simulating actual traffic environments to reproduce more realistic communication.

RanLOS develops the “Automotive CATR Solution” by applying to automotive testing the accurate and highly reproducible test method that has been used in the communication industry. By deploying the solution in your existing anechoic chamber, you can test wireless communication performance of automobiles while simulating realistic communication on highways or in cities.

Its compact and easy-to-install design and reduced reflection from the floor and walls with the use of plane waves to generate electromagnetic fields allow it to be installed in an existing anechoic chamber for EMC testing. When it is placed on a turntable with a chassis dynamometer, OTA (Over-The-Air) testing can be conducted in either driving or regeneration mode and with ADAS function running.

This solution can be used for functional testing of safety systems and autonomous driving systems as it supports V2X communication, which is expected to spread widely in the future. In addition, the easy setup helps reduce test time.

TOYO Introduces Emissions Measurement and Analysis Software “EPX/VE” for Automobile and On-vehicle Equipment

New Software Enables Anyone to Conduct Measurements and Perform Analysis Like an Experienced Engineer

Tokyo, Jan 8, 2020 – TOYO Corporation (HQ: Chuo-ku, Tokyo Japan, President and CEO: Masaru Gomi) announces the launch of new internally developed EMI(*1) measurement and analysis software for automobile and on-vehicle equipment. Called Vehicles and Components Emissions Measurement and Analysis Software, the application is used for measuring electromagnetic interference emissions from automobile and on-vehicle equipment and analyzing them to verify conformance to various standards including international and auto makers’ own standards.

The “EPX/VE” is a software product that measures and analyzes the electromagnetic noise emitted from automobile and on-vehicle equipment. Combined with Keysight’s EMI receiver(*2), “N9048B PXE,” this software helps prevent you from missing any noise and identify the part that emits noise along with the location of the noise source. By making it easier to pinpoint the noise source, development engineers are now able to take countermeasures against such noise at each step of the development cycle more efficiently, which leads to the reduction in overall development time.

The “EPX/VE” supports the conformance test and ease of evaluation against EMI standards for automobile and on-vehicle equipment in various countries and regions.

 

Background / Feature
The “EPX/VE” is TOYO’s original software and was developed by One Technologies Company, an in-house TOYO company engaged in product development. An operator can measure and record the electromagnetic noise emitted by automobile and on-vehicle equipment using an EMI receiver and analyze the measured data on the “EPX/VE” to check whether the product complies with various standards.

There have been some challenges with the above-mentioned analysis – for example, it was difficult for non-experienced engineers to find the noise source by looking at the measured data. The noise source often can be identified only by an experienced engineer’s intuition. However, by visualizing all signal waveforms including noise in chronological order, the “EPX/VE” can provide you with the timing and frequency component of the noise. You can easily isolate the part emitting noise by finding the one that has the operating cycle that matches the target signal waveform. This enables anyone to conduct the EMI measurement and analysis like an expert engineer and will help shorten the overall product development cycle.

Furthermore, the “EPX/VE” also supports the conformance test for various international, regional or auto manufacturers’ own standards and by using this software, you can easily find out if your product conforms to the relevant EMI standard.

 

Combined solution with Keysight “N9048B PXE” EMI receiver
With the world’s first feature called “Accelerated Time Domain Scan (A-TDS)”*3, Keysight Technologies’ new EMI receiver, “N9048B PXE” offers gapless measurement, which enables you to “constantly” monitor the spectrum in the measurement frequency range so that noise is no longer missed. When noise that exceeds the maximum allowable level defined by the standard is missed in EMI measurement conducted at each development phase and is found at the final stage of development, this will substantially increase the development time as engineers need to go back to an earlier stage and fix the problem. Due to this, development engineers have no choice but to take great pains in taking countermeasures against noise and spend much time on it. A combined solution consisting of the “EPX/VE” and EMI receiver “N9048B PXE” prevents you from missing noise when you conduct EMI measurement for automobile and on-vehicle equipment and helps anyone identify the noise source easily and quickly to save time.

The EMI measurement makes sure that the emission from a product is lower than the level that affects the normal operation of other electronics. 2018 Automotive Testing Expo Recap

In my career, I have attended more exhibitions and tradeshows than I would like to remember.  However, the Novi, Michigan event that took place during the week of October 22 in Michigan was very memorable for me.  Perhaps it was because it was the first time I had ever attended (and exhibited at) at an automotive focused show.  I have worked in a number of different industries prior to joining TOYOTech including consumer electronics, enterprise data storage, networking and computing.  But the Automotive Testing Expo was a new experience for me and some of my colleagues. 

There were over 300 exhibiting companies and the event was held at a venue called the Suburban Collection Showplace.  The organizers billed the event as “offering attendees the opportunity to meet hundreds of the world’s most innovative automotive test, evaluation and quality engineering technology developers.”  This was an understatement.  Exhibiting companies showcased products that span that full array of development, test and measurement solutions for electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicles.    It was difficult to walk the floor and not see things that you had ever seen before or products that warranted a further, closer look.  Take a look at some of the pictures we took at the event on Google Photos.

At the TOYO booth, we focused our efforts on the Rototest dynamometers, a more cost-effective and easier way to perform traditional powertrain testing and measurements.   Although we did not bring actual production versions of the dynamometer to the show, we brought the next best thing: scaled down fully operating models.  It was an instant hit.  And our booth area was constantly filled with visitors.  Many came by to watch our model car execute turns on the dynamometers that were attached to them.  You can find a video of our model dynamometers at this link.

We also previewed our Rototest X Simulator.  This solution is integrated with Rototest dynamometers allowing one to not only simulate true road conditions but also to visualize them in real time.  The following link takes you to a linkedin post which contains a video showing how this work. 

In addition to support from the US TOYOTech team, we also had support from our colleagues from TOYO Japan and a key member of the Rototest team.  And through the three days of exhibitions, we collectively talked to many hundreds of folks that passed by our booth area about our automotive test solutions.

There were multiple occasions where a visitor would come by our booth, reviewed our offerings, talked to our staff and then return several hours or a day later with a colleague or their manager to show them what they have seen or heard.  I do not recall this happening often at the tradeshows I have staffed in the past.

TOYOTech to market ROTOTEST Energy in the US

Rototest and TOYO Corporation: Expanding Sales Trilaterally in Japan, the United States, and China

TOYOTech obtains the exclusive right to market “ROTOTEST® Energy™”, an advanced hub-coupled chassis dynamometer system, in the United States, helping customers evaluate the Dynamics and Energy Flow of EVs, FCVs, and Other Electric Vehicles

Tokyo, Japan – August 28, 2018 – TOYO Corporation (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Masaru Gomi) announced that its United States (US) subsidiary TOYOTech LLC (in Fremont, CA) has acquired the exclusive right to market the advanced hub-coupled chassis dynamometer “ROTOTEST® Energy™” in the US.  Rototest dynamometers allow for steering control while testing a real vehicle on it.  TOYOTech will launch the dynamometer on September 3, 2018 in the US automobile market, where investments in technology development for self-driving cars and EVs/FCVs are active.  The addition of the “ROTOTEST® Energy™” dynamometer in conjunction with a diverse array of pertinent measurement instruments and technologies will cement it as one of the top testing solutions required to develop next-generation automotive technologies.

TOYO Corporation has been the exclusive distributor for Rototest Europe AB (Head office: Rönninge, Sweden), the manufacturer of ” ROTOTEST® Energy™,” since December 2015 in Japan, and since February 2018 in China.  Capitalizing on the momentum of this partnership formation in the US, TOYO Corporation is aiming to accelerate its trilateral sales expansion of “ROTOTEST® Energy™” in Japan, the US, and China.
